Be A Caring Leader.

Guild /gild/ noun: Any association for mutual aid and promotion of common interest.

Leadership, Development and Fundraising are the foundation of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League Guild. The first Urban League Guild was founded by Mrs. Millie L. Moon of New York City in 1942. Nearly 60 years later, in 2005, The MWUL Guild was created and formally accepted into the National Council of Urban League Guilds. Soon after, The MWUL Guild was recognized with the Charter Membership certificate at the National Urban League Conference.

The Guild defines, promotes and communicates to the public how the MWUL implements strategies for effectively dealing with community needs. Much of this is done through activities that focus on:

• Program Development
• Education
• Economic Development
• Health Disparities
• Hospitality
• Fund-raising

Membership is open to all individuals over 40 years old, regardless of gender, race, or ethnicity.

Mission

The mission of the Metropolitan Wilmington Urban League Guild is to stimulate, develop and promote volunteer participation and leadership consistent with the goals and objectives of the local Affiliate. One of the MWUL Guild’s proudest achievements was the establishment of the “Renee DuJean Scholarship Fund” in May 2014. The Guild believes that ”Investing in our Seeds of Today, Ensures Our Hope for Tomorrow.”  Therefore, as Guilders we have a responsibility to help provide our children with the best education possible. MWUL Guild enables people of color to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power and civil rights. The Guild financially supports the MWUL through major fundraising events and community projects.
